This project begins with an ancient sun symbol on a papyrus from Greek horoscopes: a circle with a pointed edge. I am left to wonder under what circumstances its creator envisioned this image—if they often looked up at the sky, perhaps it was an imitation of the sun itself, with the pointed edge capturing a beam of light. But if their eyes lingered more on the ground, they might have realized, as a sharp-topped, round object stood still beneath the sunlight, the point could just as well be a shadow.
This seems to be a subtle revelation: one is the sun, the other its projection, yet at certain angles, they form the same image. Could this mean they are not inherently contradictory? Alas, I cannot find a definite answer, but I know that human imagination mirrors the vast mysteries of the cosmos. Whether through boundless thought or the layered wisdom of experience, we explore the world in myriad ways. When I observe, am I also like one of our ancestors, standing on the ground, waiting for inspiration from celestial bodies, seeking a connection between myself and the universe in the chaos of light and shadow?
